The Doctoral Dissertation Award Competition is sponsored by the ACM/Special Interest Group on Management Information Systems (SIGMIS)

Eligibility

To be eligible for the 2001-2002 competition, dissertations must have been completed in the time period from July 1, 2001 to June 30, 2002. The thesis must, in the opinion of the judges, be related to an important issue in the information systems field. Authors must be in good standing in their doctoral programs, but need not be majoring in information systems per se.

Submission Process

All papers and supporting documents must be mailed or emailed (as outlined below) to the addresses below and be received by 5:00 pm on Wednesday July 31, 2002. Any documents received after that date and/or submissions without all of the appropriate documentation will not be reviewed.

ICIS encourages submissions from all countries. However, all manuscripts and accompanying information must be submitted in English.

The following information is required:

  1. A CD-ROM copy of the dissertation for audit purposes only.
  2. An electronic copy of a paper derived from the dissertation. The paper should be:
    1. single-authored (i.e., the paper must be written by the student);
    2. 5,000 to 6,000 words in length;
    3. include an abstract of up to 200 words in length;
    4. written in English.
  3. A short letter from the student's dissertation advisor or chairman of the doctoral program, attesting that:
    1. the paper is based on the student's dissertation;
    2. the dissertation meets all requirements for graduation with a doctoral degree and has been successfully defended during the time period: July 1, 2001 to June 30, 2002;
    3. the paper and dissertation are regarded by the dissertation committee as being representative of the best level of their department's doctoral work;
    4. the paper derived from the dissertation meets the following criteria:
      1. the paper is the work of the student, and the student alone;
      2. it represents high research standards, in terms of theory and method;
      3. it makes an original and substantive contribution to the understanding, development, or use of information systems.

Works under consideration for publication may be submitted if they otherwise meet the criteria for selection. Authors will retain full copyright of the submitted papers and dissertations.

The CD-ROM copy of the dissertation should be mailed only to:
