Using narrow gated Raman to reject luminescence of explosives

The usage of narrow gate Raman spectroscopy (~10-9 s) enables the detection of Raman signals of various explosives, which are usually screened by their intrinsic or background fluorescence. Raman scattering is virtually instantaneous (less than 1 ps), whereas fluorescence emission is statistically relatively slow, with a minimum time of hundreds of picoseconds. Thus using a short laser pulse to illuminate a sample and a gated detection system that detects only those photons scattered or emitted during the laser pulse, we are able to collect all of the Raman photons but reject the majority of the fluorescence.

Surface enhanced Raman spectroscopy as a probe for adsorbate orientation on silver nanoclusters

Using the comparison between the two spectrums (Raman and SERS), enables us to learn about the binding nature and the way different molecules attached to the enhancing silver clusters.

Surface plasmon resonance and surface enhanced Raman spectra of aggregated and alloyed gold-silver nanoparticles

We study the effects of size, morphology and composition of gold and silver nanoparticles on surface plasmon resonance (SPR) and surface enhanced Raman spectroscopy (SERS).

Manipulating the resonance frequencies in plasmonic periodic structures.

SPR of nanoparticles is known to be size and shape dependent; we study the absorption spectrum of dielectric film with periodic array of gold islands of different shape and different mutual distances both theoretically and experimentally.
