My work focuses on cognitive approaches to the understanding and treatment of social anxiety, post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), and depression. My research integrates experimental and clinical studies, and seeks to identify the mechanisms that contribute to the maintenance and etiology of these disorders. When analyzing a given condition, I attempt to understand the following: |
![]() |
(i) How does the disorder manifest itself in symptoms and in basic mechanisms? (ii) What can we learn from these mechanisms about the ways in which a condition develops, and the ways in which it is maintained? (iii) What impedes self-correction mechanisms from coming into action and enhancing functionality and mental health? In attempting to answer these questions, I adopt an integrated approach, involving experimental and clinical studies, using phenomenological and cognitive psychology paradigms to identify the core cognitive and affective abnormalites in a specific disorder. I apply this knowledge to the development of specialized cognitive treatments that aim to reverse these maintaining factors. |
