This seminar focuses on core issues of the architecture of the syntactic component of grammar and its interfaces with other components. This includes questions about:
- The nature and content of syntactic representations
- The nature of syntactic operations and constraints
- The 'division of labor' between syntax and the lexicon and the interface between syntax and morphology
- The extent to which functional projections are fixed and universal
- Derivational versus non-derivational approaches to syntax
Prerequisites: 287 or 987; 587 recommended
