This seminar focuses on core issues of the architecture of the syntactic component of grammar and its interfaces with other components. This includes questions about:

  • The nature and content of syntactic representations
  • The nature of syntactic operations and constraints
  • The 'division of labor' between syntax and the lexicon and the interface between syntax and morphology
  • The extent to which functional projections are fixed and universal
  • Derivational versus non-derivational approaches to syntax

Prerequisites: 287 or 987; 587 recommended
